International Work Experience and Collaborations

 

From 1985, Steffen Lehmann has practised architecture in the UK, Japan, Austria and Germany, and is a consultant with governments and architects in Australia. The scope of his practical experience is internationally oriented and includes work on a large range of award-winning, mixed-use projects.

 

Steffen fosters a culture of collaboration and often interacts with international practices on major projects. His practice Steffen Lehmann Architekten BDA was in the first wave of German architectural practices to export services to clients in Japan and Dubai, in the early 1990s.

1997 - 2002

International cooperation between Christian de Portzamparc Architects (Paris) and Steffen Lehmann Architekten BDA : project partnership on the New French Embassy in Berlin, as 'Generalplaner'.

 

1993 - 2003

In January 1993, at age 30, Steffen Lehmann formed the practice s_Lab Steffen Lehmann Architekten BDA, GmbH, based in Berlin. As principal architect, he was involved in all aspects of architecture of all major projects of the practice, especially interested in inter-disciplinary collaboration. Full-time Staff: between 12 and 22 architects and designers employed.

 

1990 - 1992

Worked 2.5 years as Project and Design Architect in the office of Arata Isozaki & Associates in Tokyo.

Substantial number of competition entries for Arata Isozaki, in charge of projects in Vienna (competition 1 st Prize), Munich, Stuttgart (competition 1 st Prize), London Tate Modern, and several projects in Berlin. Kashii-Housing in Fukuoka, South Japan. International collaborative partnership: continued to work in partnership with Arata Isozaki in Berlin 1993 - 1996 on Potsdamer Platz project, buildings C2/C3.

 

1989 - 1990

Worked 1 year in the practice of James Stirling, Michael Wilford & Associates in London. Worked on projects: Music School and Theatre Academy in Stuttgart, and competitions: Tokyo International Forum (competition 2nd Prize), and Bibliotheque de France, Paris.
